Overview

Tawila Island is a tourism development on a remote island among the northern Red Sea islands off El Gouna and Hurghada, built by Orascom Construction. Because the site sits offshore with no fixed link to the mainland, the workforce, construction plant and materials all had to be moved to and from the island by sea throughout the build.

ZafMarine served as the marine sub-contractor for the project. We deployed tugs, supply vessels and barges to transport workers, construction equipment and materials between the mainland and the island, and managed all marine operations for the construction logistics.

  • Crew transfer for the construction workforce to and from the island
  • Barge transport of construction materials, plant and equipment
  • Towage and marine spread management
  • Planning and management of the marine logistics throughout construction

ZafMarine's marine spread sustained the supply line to Tawila Island across the construction programme, keeping the offshore site supplied with people, plant and materials.

Challenge

Tawila Island is offshore with no fixed link to the mainland, so every member of the workforce and every load of plant and material had to be moved by sea, on schedule, in Red Sea conditions, throughout the construction programme.

Solution

ZafMarine deployed a marine spread of tugs, supply vessels and barges and managed the marine operations end to end, scheduling crew transfers and barge runs to keep the island site continuously supplied.

Results

ZafMarine maintained the marine supply chain to Tawila Island across the construction programme, moving the workforce, equipment and materials to and from the island and managing all marine operations.
